Bowenwork and Fascial Unwinding

Fascial unwinding with bowenwork

This doesn’t happen all the time, but when it does, it is so fascinating! We call it “fascial unwinding”.

During fascial unwinding (fascia is the system of connective tissue surrounding all the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the whole body). , the Bowen therapist stimulates mechanoreceptors in the fascia by applying gentle touch and stretching. Thereby inducing relaxation and activating the parasympathetic nervous system. The gentle moves also activate the central nervous system, which is involved in the modulation of muscle tone and movement. As a result, the central nervous system is aroused and thereby responds by encouraging muscles to find an easier, or more relaxed position and producing an involuntary muscle movements. It’s all very cool!

Bowenwork and sleep disorders

I just read this  article about how Bowenwork has helped one well-known actor with pain relief. Bill Tarmey, (Jack Duckworth from Coronation Street) was suffering with pain in his muscles and joints, significant enough that he was having a hard time sleeping. My experience with local clients is no different. You’ll find that the gentle, non-invasive Bowenwork techniques will relieve general as well as specific pain. Many of my clients also report better sleeping habits, as their sleep is less likely to be interrupted by pain.

“Actor Bill Tarmey – one of Coronation Street’s best loved characters, Jack Duckworth – has found his life transformed by the Bowen Technique, one of the fastest-growing complementary therapies”
